A Brief History of Therapharma and Its Accomplishments
The birth of Therapharma was marked by the launching of its first two products, Alaxan and Trivon tablets, on August 14, 1961. With about 16 men under the administration of Dr. Amadeo M. Constantino, Therapharma was, then, known as a promotions group, not a marketing group. Coverage was limited only in Manila and adjacent municipalities and cities.
During the early 60's Therapharma penetrated the B-complex and the analgesic-muscle relaxant markets. On its first two decades, Therapharma had to struggle to make its first million. Then in the early 80's, Therapharma soared to make its first million and in the mid 80's made 200 million. For three consecutive years from 1986 to 1988, Therapharma went over its sales target and earned its first Grand Slam Award in 1989 making history in Unilab. In 1990, Therapharma exceeded its sales target for the fifth consecutive time and thereafter, earned its Super Grand Slam Award in 1991. As early as 1990, Therapharma has already earned its first billion.
In 1991, Therapharma established co-marketing relations with Pediatrica, with the former taking the role of a "big brother helping a small brother grow." The partnership of the two ethical divisions proved mutually beneficial. At the end of 1992, Therapharma and Pediatrica earned the distinction of being first and second placers in the honor roll of major product divisions. Having catapulted Pediatrica to its present position, Therapharma has continued to operate separately from Pediatrica since 1992.
In 1992, Unilab's president and CEO, Dr. Delfin B. Samson, Jr. addressed Therapharma as "the product division which brought Christmas cheers to everybody. The benefits which were enjoyed by the United family were made possible by Therapharma."
From 1993 onwards, Therapharma has maintained an enviable position in the ranks of Unilab's major ethical divisions.
Past helmsmen of Therapharma were the late Dr. Amadeo M. Constantino (1961-1970), Mr. Ignacio G. Tan (1970-1978), Mr. Fernando V. Carbonell (1978 - 1983), Mr. Juventino L. Mendoza (1983 - 1984), Mr. Enrique M. Granda (1985 - 1992) and Dr. Genato S. Bautista (1992-1999).
It was during the stewardship of Mr. James T. Dio in the year 2000 when Therapharma underwent a major transformation from a multi-specialty to a cardiovascular division of Unilab.
Mr. John E. Dumpit is the current General Manager.
