History

Therapharma’s birth took its root from the humble beginnings of its mother company, United Laboratories, Inc., which was founded in 1945 by Jose Y. Campos.  J.Y.’s legacy of Bayanihan became Therapharma’s point of origin in its advocacy in providing quality and affordable medicines to ALL Filipinos.

August 14, 1961 marked the birth of THERAPHARMA, Inc., a division of United Laboratories via the launching of its first two products, ALAXAN – the phenomenal muscle relaxant and TRIVON tablet – B complex vitamins.

Dr. Amadeo M. Constantino, the first company administrator together with sixteen (16) men, jumpstarted operations in Manila and neighboring cities and municipalities. His leadership lasted until 1969.

In 1970, under the new administration of Mr. Ignacio “Iggy” G. Tan, alliance with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) took place.  This partnership ushered the birth of 2 new products, ATROMID-S and INDERAL.

In 1983, the company notched its first 100 million mark with Mr. Fernando “Nanding” V. Carbonell in the lead.

In 1986, Mr. Enrique “Tito” M. Granda took over the very brief stint of administration of Mr. Juventino “Ben” L. Mendoza who was assigned in international operations.

“The Grand Slam years”  was how the Golden period was labeled from 1986 to 1992.  ALAXAN became the number one analgesic; CALCIBLOC, number one anti-hypertensive drug; and KREMIL S, number one anti-hyperacidity drug in the market.

In 1991, co-marketing with Pediatrica took place.

In 1992, the company reached the 1st Billion in sales.

In 1993, co-marketing with Large Volume Parenterals, Philippines (LVP) was launched.

The transition years from 1993 to 1999 was led by Dr. Genato “Gene” S. Bautista.  Culling of products paved the way in the establishment of cardiovascular product line up.

In 2000, Therapharma was transformed completely from a multi-segment business to a Cardio Metabolic Division.  Leading the team was Mr. James T. Dio.

In 2001, the advocacy of PHARMACOECONOMICS was established.  VASCOR, VASCORIDE, VIDASTAT, LIFEZAR, COMBIZAR, CALCIBLOC OD, ZANDIL were launched.  Therapharma became and still is a trusted leader in providing metabolic and cardiovascular solutions.

In 2010, Therapharma evolved to focus on cardiovascular products and became the Number 1 Cardiovascular Company in the Philippines with a 3 Billion performance.  AMVASC, AVAMAX, HYTAZ, PLOGREL, CHOLINERV, CARVID, VESTAR were launched.

Therapharma, Inc. evolving to live the dream of Chairman Emeritus and Founder JOSE Y. CAMPOS to provide the Filipino people with quality and affordable healthcare products and services has now adapted its new advocacy MAAASAHAN under the current leadership of Mr. John E. Dumpit.
